Project Description
MacKay Sposito partnered with Moffatt & Nichol and NorthWestern Energy to create a comprehensive master plan for the Wild Goose Landing Day Use Area in Thompson Falls, Montana. This 3-acre site along the Clark Fork River was a popular community recreation spot but suffered from aging infrastructure, poor stormwater management, and safety concerns due to overlapping swimming and boating zones. The planning process assessed site conditions, public needs, and regulatory constraints to develop a revitalization strategy. Key improvements include ADA-compliant pathways and beach access, a new boat ramp and dock system, upgraded parking for day use and trailers, and a plumbed and heated restroom facility. The final plan also introduces nature play areas, fishing nodes, and expanded open lawn and picnic zones to enhance the community experience.
Sustainable practices were a guiding principle throughout the project. The plan incorporates stormwater treatment features like rain gardens and swales, while shoreline stabilization measures protect habitat and support recreational use. These improvements will ensure safe, accessible, and environmentally responsible recreation for the community and visitors for years to come.
