Project Description

The Washington Way project is a transformative 1.6-mile Complete Streets initiative in the heart of Longview, Washington, developed as a cornerstone of the city’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. MacKay Sposito led a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive services, including engineering design, stakeholder engagement, traffic analysis, stormwater planning, NEPA environmental documentation, and construction support. This federally funded infrastructure upgrade was strategically aligned with FHWA and WSDOT Local Agency Guidelines and timed to coincide with Longview’s centennial celebration.

Improvements included extensive pavement rehabilitation, planning nearly 27,350 SY of asphalt, and replacing 2,349 SY of concrete panels, plus installation of ADA-compliant ramps, signal modifications, buffered bike lanes, and pedestrian crossings. The team oversaw the installation of video detection systems, resurfacing with over 3,800 tons of hot mix asphalt, and application of 60,000 LF of plastic pavement striping. Public outreach was central to the project’s success, with a coordinated campaign to build community and leadership support, ensuring long-term impacts in multimodal accessibility and traffic safety.
