Project Description

MacKay Sposito provided engineering design and permitting services for two vital stormwater infrastructure projects in Pasco, Washington, identified in the city’s 2023 Comprehensive Stormwater Management Plan. These efforts address aging and failing storm systems impacting residential areas and public parkland. The Sylvester Street Stormwater Pipe Repair project involves replacing severely damaged 12-inch, 15-inch, and 21-inch storm pipes and manholes along a busy five-block stretch of this corridor. The project also impacts a very old cast iron water pipe, including replacing the water main. Due to the corridor’s high usage, traffic management, construction staging to maintain water service to residences, and working around existing utilities are key components of this effort.

The second project focuses on replacing a deteriorated 48-inch storm main in a USACE easement at Schlagel Park. This scope includes pipe replacement, environmental permitting, coordination with USACE and other agencies, and restoring impacted park land. With a strong local presence and prior experience at Schlagel Park, MacKay Sposito completed the permitting effort on time and within budget. This project included preparing a detailed construction sequencing plan and designing a conveyance bypass system.
